<dcterms:hasPart><![CDATA[Verso: "I send these sketches by kindness of Mr. Dunn of NY Herald who goes in the dispatch boat in advance of the mail. No. 1 is Mass 24th planting the stars & stripes on Fort Thompson a 13 gun battery commanding the river & approach to to [sic] land works. The fort was evacuated when the 24th entered with the exception of 3 rebel artillerists who were taken prisoners. The fort had previously been shelled by the fleet. // No. 2 a general view of battle field showing a portion of the interminable breast works of the rebels -- the vast expanse of felled & charred trees before the works, the advance of our boys & the rebels giving way. Add figures, where, necessary, give a dark, drizzly sky. I send this to start you -- shall send others soon as possible. See dailies for details. Breastworks said to be over 3 miles long. // No. 3 -- The landing. // [signed] F.H.S. // N.B. Send large envelopes & stamps -- impossible to get them here. Did you send cash as you stated? Please send some by Mr. Dunn of the Herald." Small sketch of soldiers shooting over a rampart.]]></dcterms:hasPart>
