Recto: "Seige [sic] of Fort Macon. Companies A & B of 5 R.I. reg. Capt's Wheeler & Wright, protecting the working parties constructing the 3 Parrott gun battery, Captain Morris. Col. White sometimes beguiles his leisure moments by throwing shells promiscuously about the sand spit upon which our works are located, doubtless." Remainder apparently cut off.
